Code of Conduct - AISIP Newsgroups and Web Forums

AISIP aims to provide a professional, positive environment in our newsgroups and web forums at all times. To achieve that end, we have a Code of Conduct for the Newsgroups and Web Forums.

  • Everyone who has access to the AISIP private newsgroups/forums must be a member of AISIP.
  • All information shared in the AISIP private newsgroups/forums is to be considered private, and should not be shared outside the group without the message author's express permission.
  • You must use your real name (first & last) in the "From" field of your newsgroup/forum messages. Anonymous posts are not allowed.
  • You are strongly encouraged to use a real, readable email address in your newsgroup reader's "reply to" address. That way, if any members wish to contact you privately concerning a newsgroup/forum message, they may do so.
  • Tag lines (signature lines at the bottom of your message) are limited to 5 lines of text/information.
  • You are encouraged to include your name, email address and website URL(s) in your tag lines.
  • Attachments are not allowed. If you would like someone to see a picture or a document, please put it on a website, then post the URL.
  • Use meaningful subjects for your newsgroup/forum messages. "What do you think?" is NOT a meaningful subject, whereas "New product name - what do you think?" is better.
  • You may occasionally (not more than once a month) post a message about new products, services or pricing that you have available, however, it is requested that you preface the subject with the letters "ANN:" (short for "Announcement")
  • Remember that these are professional newsgroups/forums, and try to stay on-topic. While some thread drift may be unavoidable, try and keep it to a minimum. Starting a new thread on the new topic is often the best approach.
  • Posts containing personal views on, or references to, controversial subjects such as politics and religion are not allowed, unless the topic is of obvious business interest.
  • If you wish to share a link to something interesting, include a short message describing what the link is for, and/or why you think it is interesting.
  • Remember that this is an international group, so be open and sensitive to cultural differences.
  • Posting of private correspondence is not allowed without the permission of both parties. Please note that the posting of any emails you receive falls under this rule, even if the sender's identifying information is not included. If you wish to share the contents of an email without the sender's permission, you may paraphrase or summarize the contents, if the source of the email will in no way be revealed or ascertained through your message.
  • Example of an acceptable post: "I just received a request for support from a person using a cracked version of my software..."
  • Example of an unacceptable post: "I just received an email that says 'Hey, I'm using your software with a key I found on the crackz forum....'"
  • Note that the unacceptable example quotes the email exactly, whereas the acceptable example summarizes the contents. It is important to keep in mind that the source and/or the subject of emails does not change privacy rules and laws.
  • Please bear in mind that emails sent to you from businesses are also private correspondence, and you need the sender's permission to reveal the contents.
  • Quoting of copyrighted work should follow standard permissions and procedures. Quoting of small excerpts may be allowed (if you cite the source), but quoting large sections or entire works without the permission of the copyright holder is forbidden.
  • Political discussions are not allowed, unless the topic directly affects our businesses. Even then, members must use discretion and keep the discussion confined to the business-related issues. Offending messages of a political nature may be deleted without notice by the newsgroup moderator.
  • The Association of Independent Software Industry Professionals and its representatives have the right to delete any messages that are found offensive or inappropriate. While this action is considered extreme, it will be done if warranted in the opinion of the newsgroups moderator. Maintaining the professional tone of the AISIP newsgroups is the goal.
  • Name calling, profanity and any other offensive or unprofessional behavior are not allowed. Offending messages may receive a warning, and may be deleted by the newsgroup moderator. Repeated offenses are grounds for termination of the offender's AISIP membership.
